It's a perfect late-spring Sunday to play golf, unless you're in Lido Beach. Lido Golf Club is now closed for two weeks as the Town of Hempstead transitions into the role of golf course operator at the popular municipal course.
The town is taking over for its previous course operator, Double Eagle Golf, which ran Lido since 1997. Hempstead ended its longtime relationship with Double Eagle over financial and operational disputes. For more information on the fight between town and operator, see last month's post.
Lido removed all tee times from its website starting today, June 4, and is not answering phone calls.
According to last week's Newsday story, the Nassau County judge involved in the dispute suggested that Lido golfers who are dissatisfied with the town's operation of the course should ’93seek redress through the political process, or by perhaps filing an appropriate legal action.’94
Lido is scheduled to reopen in some capacity on June 18.
