The golf courses at Bethpage State Park are done playing host. This weekend they will get back to playing golf — amateur golf.
October 4 is reopening day for two of the four non-Black courses that were heavily impacted by the corporate tents, pavilions, temporary roadwork and general foot traffic that came with last week’s Ryder Cup. Bethpage Red and Blue will be the first to open for play this Saturday, followed by the Black Course, which will open for walk-ups only on Friday, October 10.
Both the Red and Blue courses will offer tee times from 7:24 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and close for several maintenance days throughout the fall. Blue is nine holes only from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
The Black Course is scheduled to be walk-ups only for the first two weeks of play and will begin taking reservations on October 24. Black will be closed for maintenance and aeration on several days in October.
Work to dismantle the extensive Ryder Cup buildout began as soon as the tournament ended on Sunday and will continue through Bethpage’s fall playing season. Recovery for the courses themselves will go on much longer. Red #1 was almost completely covered by a corporate tent and #18 fairway was taken over in part by a concession area. The Ryder Cup merchandise tent and main spectator area — The People’s Plaza — occupied parts of the Blue and Yellow courses. Yellow #10 was paved over with asphalt and used as the event’s transportation hub. (If you noticed the big bunker next to the shuttle terminals, that’s the fairway trap on #10.) Holes #1 and #18 on the Green Course disappeared beneath concessions and work areas, and parts of the back nine were used for parking.
According to a Bethpage park calendar posted Wednesday, the Green and Yellow courses will not reopen this month.
Expect several holes to remain out of play or return in shortened form. Unlike past majors that were played at Bethpage in May and June, the late-September Ryder Cup offers no lengthy turf-growing season after the tournament. It will likely take until late-spring or summer 2026 for parts of the courses to resemble prime playing conditions, especially Yellow’s back nine and the Black-adjacent Green holes.
The Black Course will host the 2028 Women’s PGA Championship and 2033 PGA Championship, as announced by the PGA of America during Ryder Cup week.
