The long-abandoned, graffiti-faced skeleton of a Burger King in Rocky Point was finally reduced to rubble this Monday, after serving as a local eyesore since 2004. What does this have to do with Long Island public golf?
Well, the former Home of the Whopper stood adjacent to the Rolling Oaks Golf Course, and the property will likely be incorporated into the course in some capacity. Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner said she'd like to see a clubhouse and/or pro shop go up at the site, according to Gregory Zeller of the local Village Beacon Record.
Rolling Oaks is a par-65 course operated by the Town of Brookhaven. It stretches approximately 4,700 yards from the back tees and is heavily wooded.
