Long Island Dream Club: Island’s End #16

Thanks to Golf Digest, the USGA and NBC Sports, all Long Island golfers (plus thousands more nationwide) are only six words away from being chosen to play Bethpage Black under U.S. Open conditions, with Michael Jordan as a playing partner.  If that seems a tad intimidating, take solace in the fact that only a few million people will be watching it on national television.

A great deal of creativity will be needed to elevate your six words above all the rest in order to bag the second annual Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge — much more than the creativity on display with the mailed-in title for this posting, of course.  A little luck would go a long way too.

Last year, contest winner John Atkinson shot a 114 at Torrey Pines alongside celebrity partners Tony Romo (84), Justin Timberlake (98) and Matt Lauer (100) in the first-ever Challenge after Tiger Woods' infamous comment that a 10-handicapper couldn't break 100 under Open conditions.

("Hey Tiger, keep quiet. Ninety bound.")

If you don't think you can make your case to Golf Digest in exactly six words, you can try your luck with a 60-second video.  Find all the details at the Open Challenge website

The deadline to enter is January 31, so ink your pen and get to writing.  Finalists will be announced in the May issue of Golf Digest.
