National Saferides, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing transportation for impaired drivers, will hold its first annual golf outing on Monday, July 12 at Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead. The charity event is open to all golfers.
Registration for the National Saferides Golf Classic is $700 per foursome, though smaller groups and individuals are welcome to sign up. Included in the fee is limousine transportation to and from the course for all players.
"We are looking for golf fans who really appreciate a nice course and being treated like VIPs," says Gary Barrett, executive director of National Saferides.
Format for the event will be stroke play or a modified scramble, depending on the number of players. Shotgun start is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with a dinner and ceremony to follow. Entry also includes lunch, range balls and cart.
Register online at nationalsaferides.org or call (631) 338-1694.
The goal of National Saferides is to save lives in the community by arranging for alternate transportation for impaired drivers and their passengers. The organization strives to promote better decision-making, smarter planning and raise awareness of the availability of a safe ride home.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened for play in 1999, Long Island National is one of Suffolk County's toughest challenges. It was ranked #15 in New York State in Golfweek's 2009 Best Courses You Can Play list and is rated four stars by Golf Digest.
