Voting is open for the 2011 "Best of LI" poll, brought to you annually by the Long Island Press. By now you've probably noticed signs at your favorite deli, gym, restaurant or chamber of commerce (yes, chamber of commerce) boasting about its nomination in this year's contest. Well, once again the crown for "Best Golf Course" is up for grabs and it's time to cast your vote with a couple of mouse clicks.
This year, 14 golf facilities face the daunting task of tossing Bethpage State Park from the throne. Bethpage won the title of "Best Public Golf Course" for the third straight year in 2010, followed by runners-up Eisenhower Park and Montauk Downs. Both runners-up return as nominees in 2011, along with these public courses:
- Calverton Links
- Crab Meadow
- Glen Cove
- Great Rock
- Harbor Links
- Pine Hills Country Club
- Smithtown Landing
- Town of Oyster Bay GC
- West Sayville
In a strange twist to the contest, the Long Island Press and its readers have also included a few private clubs on this year's ballot — Olde Vine in Riverhead, Tam O'Shanter in Glen Head and The Creek Club in Locust Valley. Any chance Long Islanders will be able to drop by for a round if any of those clubs triumph?
Vote until December 15 at www.longislandpress.com. Winners will likely be announced in January.
