Long Island public golf course reopenings for 2012

The 2011-12 offseason will go down in local golf circles as the winter that wasn't.  Sure, a couple of courses hung a "closed" sign in their window through January and February, but elsewhere, the golf season didn't skip a beat.  Now it's March, and those courses that shut the engine over the winter are about to rev them up again as the spring season approaches.

March is the month of new beginnings for Long Island golfers and their golf courses.  Tee times and driving-range stalls start to fill up a little quicker.  Daylight lasts longer into the evening.  Temporary greens return to their roots as regular circles of fairway.  And week by week, more courses reopen for play.  By this time next month, all but a select few will be humming with activity.

The following is a list of tentative reopening dates for Long Island's seasonal golf courses.  Most public courses on Long Island are open by mid-March; others like Bethpage Black and Red remain dormant until April.  Some provide specific opening dates; others are more vague.  Of course, it's still winter, and we remain at the old man's mercy.  Courses will be added or updated as information becomes available.  Check back through the month.

*All dates listed below are subject to change.  Call the courses directly for updated dates and times.
