Its netting still stands, though probably not for much longer. Its main building and two tiers of driving stalls have already vanished. The Island Green Golf Center has closed for development of its 14 acres on Middle Country Road in Selden.
Last May, Golf On Long Island highlighted a Newsday article that outlined the fate of the driving range and miniature golf course. The owners sought approval of a zoning change that would allow a condominium complex to be built on the site. One lawyer involved in the process said that no matter the outcome, 2011 would be the last season for the golf facility.
Displaced golfers can work on their swings at nearby ranges at the Mill Pond, Pine Ridge and Spring Lake golf courses.
