Poxabogue Golf Course purchase approved by Southampton Town Board

The Town of Southampton is now the sole owner of Sagaponack's Poxabogue Golf Course.  Bill Sutton of The East Hampton Press reported Wednesday that Southampton's Town Board unanimously approved the purchase of East Hampton's half-share of the facility, eight years after the two towns jointly purchased the course to prevent private development.

East Hampton's $2.2 million sale allows the town to cut expenses and reduce debt owed on the property since the original Poxabogue purchase in 2004.  Southampton gains full ownership of Poxabogue's nine-hole golf course, driving range, restaurant and pro shop, while eliminating the threat of private development.  According to previous reports, the sale will not impact golfers residing in East Hampton.  For more details on the sale, refer to Sutton's article in The East Hampton Press.

Poxabogue has been at the center of legal and municipal storms for nearly a decade, but it seems the family-friendly nine-holer on Montauk Highway is slowly making its way into the clear.  Its locally popular restaurant reopened last year, and the facility was featured by the New York Times in July 2011.
