On the clubhouse side of Round Swamp Road, in Bethpage State Park's lower valley, a few scattered fallen trees dot an otherwise untouched landscape. On the other side, where the Black Course and Green Course continue on in isolation, the visible effects of Hurricane Sandy are more prolific.
The fairway leading to the elevated green on the par-3 third and the adjacent downhill on #4 are littered with a couple of downed trees. Anyone who plays golf at or lives near Bethpage knows many of its trees are decades old and massive in size. With much of Bethpage hidden from outside view, the full inventory of damage remains to be seen.
