There's good news for Long Island golfers amid the current health crisis — local golf courses are among the last holdouts in a region where staying safely at home is the new norm.
Both Nassau and Suffolk have kept their county parks and golf courses open — for now — for relatively safe outdoor recreation. Still, at some courses, there will be some noticeable changes.
- Peninsula Golf Club in Massapequa announced this morning that there will be a limit on the number of people allowed in the pro shop at the same time. The course also requested that golfers use credit/debit cards and avoid cash transactions.
- Bergen Point in West Babylon — a Suffolk County muni — will still reopen for the season on March 20 with a number of precautionary measures in place. To limit contact, a four-person limit is in place for the pro shop, every other stall will be open on the driving range, and single-rider carts will be permitted upon request. Also, cups will be raised one inch over the lip to minimize hand contact on the greens.
