Nassau County is looking for $15 million in revenue to offset increased labor and maintenance expenses, and local golfers will be among those expected to chip in under a new proposal from County Executive Ed Mangano.
Newsday reported Wednesday that Mangano's proposal includes fee increases for use of county parks, renovation permits, museum admission and other county services in an effort to soften the blow from recently approved labor contracts, escalating park maintenance costs and unpaid traffic tickets. Among the fee increases is a maximum $4 hike at Eisenhower Park's Red, White and Blue golf courses.
Parks fees could increase by a total of 8-10 percent, officials said. …
Golfing at Eisenhower Park's three 18-hole courses would cost residents a maximum of $4 more. For example, the price for residents to play the Blue course on weekends would increase from $36 to a maximum of $40. In 2013, more than 154,000 rounds of golf were played at Eisenhower. — Robert Brodsky, Newsday, 5/14/2014
Nassau County also operates nine-hole golf courses at North Woodmere Park, Bay Park, Cantiague Park and Christopher Morley Park. Weekend rates at these courses for Nassau residents could jump from $17 to $19, according to Newsday.
The proposed fees require approval from the county legislature. A vote on the plan has not yet been scheduled.
