This from a Golf On Long Island reader, Mark L., who took his two wheels through the gates and onto Bethpage State Park's (damaged) bike trail last week to check out the conditions left behind by Hurricane Sandy on the back side of the complex:
"The bicycle trails in the woods are completely destroyed. I popped out
onto the Blue and Red courses to see the damage. Massive trees litter
the fairways and cart paths. The greens all seemed to have survived and
grounds crew workers could be seen in the distance working on cleaning
up fairways."The amount of and the size of the trees that are down is a
testament to how strong these winds were. Almost every hole I passed
contained old mammoth trees snapped in half like used toothpicks."
