The Blue Course at Timber Point, which took a damaging shot from Hurricane Irene barely more than a year ago, is closed until sometime in 2013 after suffering an even bigger blow from last week's Hurricane Sandy.
Timber Point sits on the edge of a peninsula that juts into Great South Bay, and the Blue nine — only steps from the water in some spots — bears the full brunt of winds and rising tides. Last year the golf course reopened briefly after the August storm before shutting down early to begin repairing damage to the irrigation system.
Meanwhile, the Red and White courses are slowly recovering and will be available for limited nine-hole play beginning Monday, November 5. Seven holes from the Red and two from White will be used temporarily as the rest of the layout is brought back to viability. Carts will be available when weather conditions permit.
