In the increasingly unlikely event that Frankenstorm Sandy goes bust next week, several area golf courses will be hosting Halloween events and offering holiday specials.
Dress up in orange and black or wear a costume to Spring Lake Golf Club in Middle Island on Halloween and play with cart for the twilight rate of $46. Reservations are required.
Farther east in Riverhead, play Long Island National for a "spooktacular" $39.
And up on the north shore, Crab Meadow Golf Course is holding its third annual Trick Or Treat Scramble, which Team Golf On Long Island won in 2011. Shotgun start is scheduled for noon, followed by beers and finger food at the bar. Cost to play is $65 per person. Format is four-person scramble with "tricks" and "treats" on alternating holes. Register online or call (631) 757-8800.
Of course, it appears the absolute best-case scenario for Halloween golf is a six-club wind (seven clubs at Long Island National).
