The Boy Scouts of America's Suffolk County Council is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its FDR Division for Special Needs Scouts and will host its annual Golf Classic on Tuesday, August 7 at Wind Watch Golf & Country Club in Hauppauge. Registration is currently open at the Council website for those who wish to participate as a player or contribute as a sponsor or donor.
Entry fee for the event is $225 per player and includes breakfast, motor cart, range balls, refreshments on the course and at the halfway house, and post-round cocktail hour and lunch. Registration and breakfast begins at 6:30 a.m. with shotgun start scheduled for 7:30. All golfers will receive a gift bag and sleeve of balls, and will be in the running to take home prizes like event tickets, digital cameras, iPods, golf equipment and more.
The mission of the FDR Division is to provide opportunities for individuals with special needs to participate in the Scouting movement. Each year, more than 250 individuals with special needs participate in the Scouting program in Suffolk County, many of whom wouldn't be able to without the generous support of donors and volunteers.
For more information, download the event brochure from the Boy Scouts of America website or contact Lauren Vlachos at (631) 924-7000 ext. 137. To register, simply visit the event website and sign up online.
Wind Watch is an attractive, hazard-heavy layout (nearly 80 bunkers in total) that tees off from one of Long Island's highest points. For more on the course, check out the Wind Watch flyover.
