The calendar is one Leap Day from a full flip to March and the first domino in a chain of hibernating golf courses is set to fall. Island's End G&CC will signal the offseason's end when it reopens for business tomorrow, March 1, and welcomes players back with a March special.
Greenport's waterside 18 will offer a still-winter $40 weekday rate ($50 Friday-Sunday) through March, carts included. Walkers pay $20 during the week and $30 Friday through Sunday.
The appropriately named Island's End Golf & Country Club skirts the Long Island Sound only a few miles from the North Fork's tip at Orient Point. Its par-3 16th, perched high on a bluff over the Sound, is one of the Island's most picturesque golf holes, public or private.
