Hurricane Irene blew through Long Island more than a month ago but area golfers are still feeling its effects. The historic and wildly popular Blue Course at Timber Point closed for the season earlier this week to begin repairing some of the damage inflicted by the August storm.
Laid out along Great South Bay, the Blue nine was flooded with saltwater during the hurricane and had its irrigation system exposed to the elements. Debris settled on the bayside sixth and seventh fairways. Still, the course reopened for play in less than a week.
The White and Red courses made it through the storm with minor flooding and tree damage. Both nines remain open. Check the Timber Point website for availability through the fall season.
