Military veterans and active-duty personnel can play a round of golf on the house next week on Veterans Day, at the park named after one of the nation's most respected generals and commanders-in-chief. Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announced recently that our military personnel will be honored with nine or 18 holes on the Blue Course to honor their national service.
"It gives me great pleasure to provide this small token of appreciation for our veterans, as well as those currently serving our nation in the military," said Mangano.
Eligible golfers must present proof of county residency and either military identification or discharge papers (for veterans). The offer is only valid for walk-up rounds and does not cover cart fees.
Eisenhower Blue is a flat, forgiving par-72 with fairway bunkers and elevated greens. The course was designed in 1951 by Robert Trent Jones as part of what was known at the time as Salisbury Park. Nearly two decades later, the park was renamed for the 34th American president, architect of the Normandy invasion and avid golfer, Dwight D. Eisenhower.
